Mopar Trivia
|
The last Chrysler car produced with a flathead engine was the 1959 Dodge Coronet. The engine, a 230 CID I-6, was replaced by the 170 CID and 230 CID slant six (MasterTech Tech News April 1999).
The first Dodge 4X4 was the 1934 K39x4USA 1 1/2 ton
truck . It featured a Timken-built front axle and transfer case. The transfer
case was the first to offer a part time configuration that allowed tyhe front
axle to free wheel on pavement. The K39 was followed by the 1938 RF-40-x4USA.
Both trucks were ver successful and established Dodge as a contender in the
4X4 market.
In late 1939, Dodge introduced the VC series Trucks
and began a nearly 30 year domination of the light-duty military market. These
military 4X4 1/2 ton vehicles were based upon civilian 1-ton 4X2 civilian designs.
Command car, pickup, and carry-all body styles were produced, and all were called
Jeeps by GI's using them. (Four Wheeler Jan, 2000)
